Classical Sequence Dance

Sequence Dancing

Sequence Dancing refers to a very broad spectrum of dances that in the past played a big role in the social dance culture of Great Britain. The Masters of Ceremonies would lead onto the floor, the audience would join them and copy the same pattern of steps. This format is still carried out to the present day.

"Sequence" refers to repetition or phrase, therefore, 16 Bars of music are repeated and referd to as one sequence.

During the later part of the 18th century and the early part of the 19th century, Gavottes, Two Steps, Mazurkas & Viennese Waltzes, were the rhythms most in favor at the time. The 1920's & 1930's saw the arrival of the Slow Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep & Tango, these are referred to as Modern Rhythms.

Sequence Dance is very enjoyable and an important study as an introduction to the world of Ballroom Dancing!
